What is HCl?
Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is the acid produced in the stomach. When this acid washes into the esophagus, a person experiences heartburn. HCl is responsible for unwinding protein and activating pepsin, a powerful protein-digesting enzyme made in the stomach.
